McGOWAN John – 15th August 2026, peacefully at home (surrounded by his loving family), 4 Adam Clarke Gardens, Portstewart. Dearly loved husband of Lynne, much loved father of Jan, Kate, Amy and Lucy, father-in-law of Jeremy, Scott, Myles and Tom, cherished Papa of Mabel, Hill, Hazel and Noel; Fraser and Hugo; Monty, Evan, Margot and Edith; Florence and Fearne, and dear brother Gerad.

Family and friends are welcome to call at the family home from tomorrow Sunday. Service of Thanksgiving in Burnside Presbyterian Church on Wednesday 19th August 2026 at 2.00pm followed by a private family cremation. Family flowers only, please. Donations, if wished, for Marie Curie NI and Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI c/o Hugh Wade and Son.

Lovingly remembered always by his family and friends.

It is with a heavy heart that I try to express my feelings of loss of one of my oldest and bestest friends. I feel lucky and privileged to have had John in my life for so many years and yet now it seems so short ... As I am sure stories of great times, laughter and the craic will prevail and unfurl during the course of this week and bear testament to the genuine character that John was.My deepest condolences go with this message ... You have suffered a huge loss yet you have a loving family group to soften this inevitable denouement.. I hope John has found peace and tranquillity and is enjoying a pint with Monty Lots of Love Stephen (The Rab) Hare xx
