Deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Bernie. She lived with a canny ability to laugh at herself and life's absurdities; I'll never forget the look that preceded the punch-line of a joke-- the one involving Planters peanuts, Guinness and pebble-dashed walls comes to mind. RIP, Bernie. Thanks for the laughs and insights.

My heart is joined with Bernie’s family and friends at this very sad time. She was a warrior, a trouper, one who lived life to the fullest to the very end of her journey on earth. I met Bernie on Crete more than three decades ago, and it didn’t take long to become drawn into her bright orbit. With an incisive mind, a sharp wit, and those smiling Irish eyes that held an irrepressible twinkle, she was always up for a good story, a lively debate, a joke, a jolly time, and we shared so many of those over the years. I once had the honour and joy of spending Christmas with Bernie and family in Ireland, and her sister Mary and family spent many a summer holiday on Crete when Bernie lived here. Happy gatherings abounded. Tragic as it may be that she has much too soon returned her borrowed stardust to the universe, I am deeply grateful to have known Bernie and to have such a treasure trove of memories. Long will she live on in our hearts and minds. May she rest in peace.
