WARD Desmond (Des), 14th July 2024.

The sudden death has occurred of Desmond (Des) Ward, late of Beechlawn Park, Dunmurry.

Dearly loved husband of Katherine, beloved son of Jim and Mary and a much-loved brother to Eileen and Geraldine. Son-in-law to Peter Gaffney and brother-in-law to Mary Rose, Matt, Derek and David.

Des is reposing at his late home. House private, family and close friends only.

His remains will be removed to St Colman’s Church, Lambeg on Thursday 18th July for Requiem Mass at 11.00am. Burial will follow afterwards at Blaris Cemetery, Lisburn. Mass can be viewed live via www.derriaghycatholicparish.com

Des will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his sorrowing family and the entire family circle.

Des, this is such a shock. We sadly have not seen each other for a long time but we were very close during our teenage years and the years that followed after. Despite that United - Arsenal rivalry, we played football, golfed, cycled, listened to music (I have even now been to see your beloved Adam Ant not so long ago), and you brought a competitive edge to everything we did. We had elongated parties in Manchester, cycle trips to Bundoran (well one!), a misguided hike to Gortin which failed at the first Fairy Water hurdle, summers at Nestle. I miss you all over again. Jim and Mary, Eileen and Geraldine, my thoughts are with you. This is the saddest news.
