Fred was my dear friend for over 50 years. We first met aged 18 at Freshers week at Trinity College. Dublin. Over the years we, and later our families , enjoyed many holidays together. I will always be grateful for Fred’s patience and support during our first adventure, together, overland to North Africa in 1971. I will always be proud to have had Fred as my friend and, like all who new him will always remember his gentleness, his genuineness and his wit. I miss him greatly. Peter Wilson

So sorry to hear of Fred's passing. It was always an absolute pleasure to be in his company. When l first met Fred in the MAC, where we both volunteered, l thought l recognised him, but the name l had in my head was David. (I was Dorothy Dunbar when l was friends with Judi in the Guides way back when. We subsequently moved to Clonevin in 1984 and had the privilege of Jamsie as our across the road neighbor) I never did find out where Fred's change in name came from but we shared many a night's craic at the MAC and on our wee trips to Dublin and beyond. He'll be sorely missed....
