Date of Death: Thursday 3rd February 2022

DOSSETOR (née Conlan) Margaret Mary (Ottawa Canada, Formerly of Ardboe Co. Tyrone) 3rd December 2021.

The daughters of Margaret Mary Dossetor announce our mother’s passing in Ottawa, Canada, on December 3rd, six days after her 100th birthday celebration with fifty people present, including all of her descendants from Canada and the United States. She was born November 27, 1921 to Joseph and Margaret Conlan.

Our mother was a trailblazer. She left Ireland at the age of seventeen to be trained as a nurse in Scotland, at the beginning of WW2. She met our father, Dr. John B. Dossetor in England and married him in New York City. She travelled to Montreal in February of that year – “high heels in the snow” – where we were all born.

Predeceased by almost everyone, including her husband of more than 60 years.
Beloved by all whom knew her, including her devoted children: Frances (Brian O’Kelly), Clare (Paul McEachern), Moira (Michael Dila), and predeceased by her son John (Ellen Power). Her ten grandchildren will miss her wisdom, wit and generosity: Anna, Daniel, Eilish, Bridget, Gemma, Emmett, Francis, Kate, Maggie & Flynn. Predeceased by siblings, Gerald, Kathleen, Gregory, James, Francis, Tommy, Philip and Brigid. Survived by her brother Brendan.

To honor her wishes, her daughters Frances, Clare, and Moira plan to bury her in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, a place her heart never truly left.

Margaret Mary’s remains will repose at Lavery’s Funeral Home from 6pm to 8pm on Monday 28th February and Requiem Mass will take place on Tuesday 1st March at 12 Noon in The Church of The Immaculate Conception Moortown. Interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Mass will also be streamed via Church webcam for anyone unable to attend (link below).
