It's almost 2 years since Des died and I think of him often . We were very good hiking buddies and he taught me so much . I loved hiking with him , he was safe , knowledgeable and so appreciative of the beauty of the Mourne and Cooleys. We hiked a bit in Sligo too, so many happy memories . I live in Kerry now and think of him often when I'm out hiking here . He had plans to come down and do some mountains here . He would have loved it . Sadly it wasn't to be . RIP Des , you are never forgotten. X

Although I only met Des in recent years through hiking, I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to share many wonderful memories and experiences with Des. Many of those hikes were indeed challenging but Des was always at hand to offer words of support and encouragement while making you believe you would make it to the end. His knowledge of the hills was incredible and I always felt it as a safety net around us. Last June, Des sat with our little group known as " The Girls" after we completed a weekend of hiking in the Twelve Ben's and between us we decided to make it an annual event to meet and hike. Donegal was the location for our 2024 hike. Des will be sadly missed by "The Girls" but we will walk every step thinking of him and I've no doubt he will be looking down and guiding us.
