Funeral/Service of thanksgiving Details
To Fr Cathal's sisters, brother and extended family and friends and to his Comumban family we send our sincere sympathies from the Mc Govern Family in Dublin. My dear Father Joseph Mc Govern from Belcoo died in September this year. He knew Cathal and he always talked about Cathal's time in An Garda Siochana. He was always inspired by Cathal's courage to leave the Gardai to pursue his calling when he joined the Columban Fathers and spending much of his life in South America helping the poor in very challenging circumstances. Thankfully when Fr Cathal was home this year my Aunt Carmel called and arranged for us to meet Cathal in our home on the 28th June. Cathal found his way to us and Dad at 96yrs was so happy and delighted to meet Cathal again after a very long time. We sat talking for nearly 3/4 hours! Cathal's sister Bernadette arrived too to bring him to her house and the time together was very special to us all. My sister and I were blessed to meet Cathal having heard about him for years. Such a kind sincere brave man who was selfless in all he did. We are thinking of his family at this very sad time and his Columban family also and all his friends and parishioners in Peru. We like to think that Cathal and our Dad are together in their heavenly home reunited with those loved ones gone before them. May Cathal rest in peace and the fruits of his great work continue in Peru. From Maria & Bernadette Mc Govern and the boys. Palmerstown Dublin
