Date of Death: Monday 23rd January 2023 Town: Coleraine
Date of Death: Monday 23rd January 2023

We, the family of the late Gerard Kane, wish to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to all those who sympathised with us on our recent bereavement.

Heartfelt thanks to all staff at the Macmillan Unit at Antrim Area Hospital for your dedicated loving care and support for Gerard and our whole family during the last three months. Your excellent professionalism, devoted care and individual attention to Gerard and our family members was a constant comfort to us, especially in his final days, and will never be forgotten.

Further thanks to all those involved in helping care for Gerard during his illness including Dr Brady and the staff of North West Cancer Centre at Altnagelvin, the doctors and nurses at Mountsandel Surgery, Coleraine as well as Mr Campbell and the staff at Causeway Hospital.

Thank you to all those who sent Mass and sympathy cards, offered their condolences by phone or social media, prepared meals and supported us in so many ways, we appreciate your kindness and presence. We also offer a special thanks to all those who gathered to pay their respects at the Church services in Coleraine and the burial in Dungannon.

Thanks to Bernard Loughrey for the beautiful singing and music at Gerard’s funeral mass.

Sincere thanks to Kate McAleer (Kate McAleer & Co Funeral Directors) for your professional assistance throughout, from your quick response following Gerard’s death in the hospital to the way you so respectfully transported him on his final journeys and for the dignified way in which you cared for his remains and made all the necessary funeral arrangements to ensure Gerard had a most respectful send off.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Fr. Nideesh Varghese, who so reverently celebrated the Requiem Mass with such a personal and moving homily which remembered Gerard with such fondness and care. Sincere thanks also to Fr. Raymond McCullagh and Fr. Eamon McCamley for providing prayers and support at the burial. Thank you to all those who assisted with the mass including the Sacristan at St. Malachy’s Parish and to Peter McHugh and all those who assisted at the graveside in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Carland Road, Dungannon.

Additional thanks to all who provided spiritual support for Gerard in recent times through visits, prayers and support including Fr. Nideesh Varghese, Fr. James O’Reilly, Fr. Jaing Matthew and John Wonnacott (Macmillan Unit Chaplain).

As it is impossible to thank everybody individually we trust that this acknowledgement will be accepted as a token of our sincere appreciation to everyone.

As Gerard was so dearly loved in both Coleraine and Dungannon there will be two Masses for his Months Mind to allow members of each community to remember him which will take place at St. Malachy’s Church Coleraine on Saturday 18th February at 6pm and also in St. Patrick’s Church Dungannon on Sunday 19th February at 12:30pm.
