Jim QUINN

Date of Death: Thursday 22nd September 2022 Town: Pomeroy
Date of Death: Thursday 22nd September 2022

We the family of the late Jim Quinn wish to express our sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to all who assisted and expressed messages of sympathy during our recent bereavement.

We are overwhelmed by all the support of the Pomeroy Community, who turned out in such cast numbers for Jim’s wake and funeral, and who lined the street of the village as his cortege approached.  For all those who travelled a great distance to pay their respects and for those who watched his Requiem Mass on webcam, we will be forever grateful.

For our neighbours and friends who helped inside and outside the house, those who brought food and offered help; thank you.

For Collie and Martin, kind neighbours who prepared the field for parking facilities for the wake, also to Keith who tidied the grounds, and to those who parked cars and directed people to the wake home; we are greatly indebted.

To those who sent Mass and sympathy cards, offered their condolences by phone or social media and supported us in so many ways, we appreciate your kindness and presence.

A particular mention to Jim’s cousins who guided and supported our family and organised the funeral cortege so meticulously, Jim would have been so proud of you.

Also the team of ladies who worked tirelessly diligently and attentively during the wake, making teas and catering to all our needs; we are eternally indebted to you.

To Aidan Molloy who so fittingly recorded the funeral cortege making it’s final journey through Pomeroy Village, and then from the Church to the Graveyard, we are forever grateful. Such a selfless and kind gesture, as it meant the loved ones who lived abroad could attend Jim’s funeral virtually, and be part of the whole experience.  This was particularly appreciated by Jim’s daughter Selina in Peru and Jim’s sister Margaret in Canada.

We pay tribute to Kate McAleer & Co. Funeral Director for her professional assistance throughout, from Jim’s death in the hospital when she so able assisted in the quick and efficient removal of Jim’s remains, and then in the dignified manner in which all the funeral arrangements were made.

For Jim’s carers John and Rose, along with the family and wide circle of friends who supported Jim through the last years of his life, the Health Care Professionals, especially the District Nursing Team (Elaine, Sharon, Ruth and Saide) whose sterling work reassured and helped our family. as well as easing Jim’s discomfort as his health declined.

To McAleer’s Pharmacy, Damien and his Staff, we well as the Doctors of Carrickmore Health Centre.  Special mention is due to the Nurses, Doctors and Ancillary Staff of Ward 2 South, Craigavon Area Hospital. We acknowledge their uttermost professionalism, sensitivity and constant support as Jim’s life ebbed away.  Much credit is due to those who kept vigil in Jim’s final weeks, especially his sister Sheila, sister-in-law Danielle and rose along with the McGeary Girls and Jim’s immediate Family who were all such a source of comfort and kindness as Jim’s health declined.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Fr. Moore, Fr. Hagan and Fr. Barney for providing spiritual support for Jim in recent times.  Also his cousin Fr. John Hughes who Con-celebrated Requiem Mass so reverently with Fr. Moore and a special word of thanks for a very moving homily delivered by Fr. Moore at the Mass.  It was such a comfort to our Family and appreciated by the congregation; it celebrated Jim’s life in a warm and personal manner. To the sacristans Ann Marie and Patrick , the Readers, Eucharistic Ministers and to John Rafferty who prepared the grave for Jim’s final resting place.

Thanks to Andrea Begley for her beautiful and uplifting choice of music, assisted by her aunt Philomena Begley and to Stephen Hayden for his fitting traditional arrangements as Jim’s remains left the Church for the final journey home.

To the Pomeroy Plunketts G.A.C for their respect shown to Jim throughout the wake and funeral, Jim would have been so proud of their fitting Guard of Honour, which flanked the coffin as his remains approached the Church.  He would have been equally proud of the Hub, a  new Club Facility, where the post-funeral meal was served.

Kind thanks to Maria Corrigan and her Staff from the chip shop who prepared and served a lovely hot meal. it was so heart warming and appreciated by all.

Thanks to Mis Ulster Drama Festival for their Guard of Honour, such a thoughtful gesture of love and respect for Jim.

As it is impossible to thank everybody individually we trust that this acknowledgement will be accepted as a token of our sincere appreciation to everyone.

Jim’s Months Mind Mass will be celebrated on Friday 21st October at 7:30pm in The Church of the Assumption, Pomeroy.
