David John McELHONE

Date of Death: Monday 22nd November 2021 Town: Randalstown
Date of Death: Monday 22nd November 2021

We the family of the late David John McElhone of Staffordstown Road, Toomebridge, who died on 22nd November 2021, would like to express our sincere heartfelt thanks to all who sympathised with us following the passing of our much-loved Son, Brother, Uncle, Brother-in-Law.

We are so grateful to our wonderful extended family, dear friends, work colleagues and neighbours who called to the family home and attended the final journey of David to the Church, your support at this most difficult time was greatly appreciated. Special thanks to those providing warm dinners, sandwiches, chairs and additional parking, particularly the Laverty Families. Also to those that phoned, sent messages, mass cards, sympathy cards and flowers, these were very much appreciated.

McCusker Bros Funeral Directors, Enda & Tom, were a source of advice, comfort and reassurance during the wake, funeral arrangements and burial, of which we were most grateful.

Our deepest appreciation to Fr McWilliams for his spiritual support and for the beautiful Mass of the Angels. Thanks also for the work of the Sacristan, lay people and James McCoy the Grave Digger for their assistance in the service and burial. Heartfelt thanks to Una Magill who sang and played so beautifully during the funeral service.

Special thanks to the Ambulance Service and especially the wonderful paramedics on the night that David was admitted to hospital. Sincere gratitude to the exceptional medical and nursing care in A&E, Wards B2 and C7, The Macmillan Unit and also the Chaplain at Antrim Area Hospital. The staff treated us so kindly during David’s final few weeks and we are so thankful that a family member could be with David at all times.

We are forever thankful for the long-term care that David received from Garden Street Clinic, Magherafelt, over his lifetime. His needs were many and the support he received ensured he had a good quality of life. Special thanks to Anita Gribbin and the Staff at Toome Pharmacy who also managed David’s medical needs so proficiently, supporting us and David over the years.

For many years, David received exceptional care from the Homefirst Team, allowing the family to continue to look after David at home. This is a blessing that the family will cherish forever and we are indebted to each and every one of these wonderful carers.

David got to enjoy a wide selection of activities during his time at Magherafelt Adult Centre and during respite care at Hollybank Centre. We will be forever indebted to the staff of both facilities for all their care and attention. The Adult Learning Disability Team, Ballymena – physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social workers, etc., helped with many of David’s physical needs both in his own home and the various facilities he attended. The staff at all these facilities looked after David so diligently and with great affection, which no doubt had a great part to play in David’s general good health throughout the years.

To those that helped in any way, your contribution made our loss more bearable. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our deepest gratitude.
David’s Month Mind will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Cargin at 10.30am on Sunday 19th December.
