Peter McLERNON

Date of Death: Monday 22nd April 2024 Town: Rock
Date of Death: Monday 22nd April 2024

The family of the late Peter V Mc Lernon wish to express sincere thanks to all those relations, family friends and neighbours for their generous support during this sad time. Peter’s Month’s Mind will be celebrated at Sunday Mass at the Sacred Heart Chapel Tullyodonnell at 10:30 am on Sunday 02 June 2024.

The family wish to express a most sincere thanks to all those who managed to visit the McAleer Bros. funeral home at Dungannon to see Peter finally at rest. The formal wake was followed on the following evening when Peter’s coffin was carried past his home at Rock, and then to Tullyodonnell Chapel. Again, our most sincere thanks to all those friends and neighbours from the entire community, who bore Peter’s coffin for this final farewell and to all the members of Rock GAA for forming their Guard of Honour.

We wish to acknowledge and express a special thanks to each member of staff at Corkhill care home where Peter experienced exceptional care and medical attention which ensured he enjoyed the best quality of life possible.

None of the above could have been managed without the unstinting support and understanding, following Peter’s death, provided by Kate Mc Aleer funeral director, Kate advised on and delivered all aspects of the funeral arrangements in a calm, caring, and dignified professional manner. To Kate we wish to express our sincere thanks and gratitude.

For the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel Tullyodonnell we acknowledge and sincerely thank all those who prepared the Church. The Mass and service was led by Fr. Slater, who spoke eloquently about Peter’s long life serving the community in Rock. Also, our thanks to the gravediggers for their preparation of Peter’s final resting place. Our appreciation and thanks to Andrea Begley for delivering such beautiful and uplifting singing and music so enriching Peter’s Requiem Mass.

Finally, the family wish to compliment and sincerely thank all those from the village who assisted the Caterer with providing the excellent light lunch served in The Hub.

As noted, Peter’s Month’s Mind will be at Mass on Sunday 02 June. The Mc Lernon family are pleased to invite all those attending for refreshments following Mass at The Hub directly opposite Tullyodonnell Chapel.

Book of Condolences

To the immediate and extended McLernon family, my wife Annie and I would like to offer our deepest sympathy to you on your very sad loss. We are the couple who, along with the community of Rock, organised Peter's 90th birthday party in 2022. Petey has had a special place in our hearts ever since we met for the first time on 22nd August 2021 at the Wheel Pump when we stopped on our motorbike (see photo). He opened his doors to us that day and we spent a memorable few hours with him drinking tea and sharing a few biscuits. We have visited him on a number of occasions since, most recently in the care home in Donaghmore. There simply was never enough time to spend with him. We are heartbroken that he is no longer with us. Please believe me when I say Peter touched the hearts of so many people in the biking community. My phone has been hopping with messages and stories of folk's encounters with the great man and every single one has the same theme, "Thank you Peter for your kindness, generosity and wisdom. We will all miss you terribly" May Petey rest in peace.

Enda Carthy
