ROONEY Rev Fr Stephen Joseph, age 66, passed away as the result of a tragic boating accident on the Detroit River, Michigan August 16, 2020.

Deeply regretted by 12 heartbroken brothers and sisters, Jim, Betty, Marie, Eddie, Gerald, Dolores, Patrick, Aodh, Pilib, Brendan, Bernadette, Paula. His brothers-in-law Tucker, Thomas and Paddy. Ray Cummings (died 2018) and Seánie McVeigh (died 2016). His sisters-in-law Theresa, Maisie, Theresa D, Annette, Noreen, Sinéad, and Susan. His 47 nieces and nephews and entire family circle. He is preceded in death by his brothers John Jnr (died 1945 aged 11 mths), Billy (died 1951 aged 4 days) and his parents John (died 1999) and Catherine (died 2017).

A Mass will be held in St Matthew’s Parish Church to celebrate the life of Fr Stephen in the coming weeks. Thank you to all for the many prayers, tributes and kind thoughts that have been paid over this past week to our brother. We would especially like to thank those who risked their own wellbeing to recover Stephen’s body from the river and to the first responders who rescued the survivors.
